Documents required for entry into the country:

Passport: with at least 6 months' remaining validity from the date of arrival.

At the time of booking, a clear, legible scan of each participant's passport will be requested.

A visa is also required for tourism and must be applied for at Lao diplomatic or consular missions. For short stays, the visa can also be obtained on arrival at the airport border posts (Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Pakse and Savannakhet), at the land border at the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge, and at the main international border crossings (though not all of them). As a precaution, it is recommended to cross the border already holding a visa duly issued by the Lao consular authorities, and to check in advance with the competent Lao diplomatic or consular authorities whether a visa on arrival can be obtained at the land crossing in question. The visa costs 40 US dollars and a passport-size photo is required; it is valid for 30 days and can be extended by the local Immigration Department. Since 9 July 2019 it has been possible to apply for a visa online at www.laoevisa.gov.la. At present, however, this method of application is available only to those entering via Wattay International Airport, Luang Prabang International Airport and the other airport and land ports of entry listed on that website.
