Description
Sun and lively beaches, wildlife and wetlands to discover. Nature reserves, fashionable bars, gourmet restaurants and fantasy theme parks! An American peninsula overlooking the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, it is not just palm trees and beaches: colonised by the Spanish as early as the 15th century and home to writers such as Ernest Hemingway, it is the site of NASA’s space centre and boasts important museums, conference centres and theatres. We will take you to discover this land, as always with every comfort.
The Florida Keys are a chain of small islands linked by 22 bridges. The southernmost island is Key West, known in Spanish as “Cayo Hueso” because of the human bones found there by the first settlers. This tropical islet, just 150 kilometres from Cuba, was once a haven for pirates and fishermen, a refuge for outcasts and a paradise for treasure hunters. Today Key West has become a favourite tourist destination thanks to its incomparable charm. The town is fairly small and can therefore be explored on foot or by bicycle to make the most of its extraordinary tranquillity. Duval Street is one of Key West’s main thoroughfares and also its liveliest; this is where most of the town’s bars and clubs are found. One of the most famous is Sloppy Joe’s, a bar once frequented by Hemingway. Southernmost Point is one of the most photographed spots in Key West (the huge buoy that marks the southernmost point of the United States). Here, where the waves crash with force, the State of Florida ends and the Caribbean Sea begins. Behind Fort Zachary Taylor lies Fort Taylor Beach; this small beach with crystal-clear waters is considered by many to be the best beach in Key West. Although its sand is coarse, it is still one of the best places in town from which to watch the sunset. Hemingway Home and Museum: over the years, Key West has been a peaceful retreat chosen by many writers and artists, though none of Hemingway’s stature. In his enormous house, Hemingway found inspiration for more than ten years. Lighthouse Museum: the old Key West lighthouse has stood since 1848. Over the years it was raised by more than 3 metres, to prevent other buildings from overtaking it in height. After climbing its 80 steps, you will have a fantastic view over the town. The Mallory Square pier is the best place in Key West from which to watch the sunset. Since the 1960s, crowds have gathered here for what has become a ritual; after sunset, the area fills with musicians, jugglers and street vendors.
The Epcot theme park is the second of the four theme parks at the Walt Disney World resort in Orlando. The park lies near Bay Lake in Florida and the well-known tourist town of Kissimmee. In short, EPCOT is an extraordinary ‘journey’ around the world and into the future, a ‘permanent fair’ of technological innovations turned into attractions for the enjoyment of the whole family. The park opened on 1 October 1982 under the name Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow, later changed to EPCOT Center. The park covers an area of 120 hectares, more than twice the size of the first park at the Walt Disney World resort, Magic Kingdom. Epcot is a place that celebrates creativity, imagination and international unity among nations. The park pays tribute to humanity’s great achievements and discoveries, such as technological innovation and the importance of international cultural openness, for the good of humankind. Great emphasis is placed on the importance of respecting nature and the Earth, to create a balance between development and the environment. The park’s symbol is Spaceship Earth, a gigantic geodesic sphere and one of its main attractions. The park is divided into 2 themed areas: Future World and World Showcase. Future World is a journey towards the technologies of the future, making them fun and interesting for everyone. The attractions are something incredible and hard to describe, a perfect blend of the most innovative technologies transformed into entertainment for all, young and old alike. What is more, all the attractions are surrounded by splendid gardens and lakes, so that you can enjoy pleasant strolls between one attraction and the next. The World Showcase area is laid out around a large lake, along which the various themed areas of the countries represented unfold, with themed restaurants, shows and attractions. Everything is designed down to the smallest detail, from the landscapes to the sets, to make this journey ‘around the world’ as realistic as possible. Some of the countries represented are: the United States, Italy, Canada, China, Germany, France, Japan, Norway, Mexico, the United Kingdom and Morocco.
