Tour of Andalusia 2026-27

Andalusia, the largest region in Spain, leaves no one disappointed: it is everything we so often imagine Spain to be – a sun-warmed land of sea, flamenco and bullfighting… with wonderful, ever-changing landscapes: we pass from fertile plains to arid semi-desert areas, from rich river basins to great mountain ranges. We will visit the main cities, the provincial capitals (Granada, Córdoba, Seville, Cádiz, Málaga), but also smaller towns (such as Ronda, Jerez and Carmona) that will leave us enchanted!

The Alhambra of Granada, one of the 7 wonders of the world.

The Alhambra of Granada is known throughout the world as one of the most beautiful monuments ever built by man and is considered the jewel of Nasrid art. The ensemble of the Alhambra, the Generalife and Granada's Albaicín quarter was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. The Alhambra was palace, citadel and fortress, the residence of the Nasrid sultans and of high officials, court servants and elite soldiers (13th-14th centuries). Today it is a monument in which four areas can be distinguished: the palaces, the military zone or Alcazaba, the city or Medina and the agricultural area of the Generalife, all surrounded by woodland, gardens and irrigated land. The whole is completed by detached buildings from various periods, such as the Renaissance Palace of Charles V, which houses the Alhambra Museum, with objects from the monument itself, and the Museum of Fine Arts. To fully appreciate the architectural and scenic value of the Alhambra, it is advisable to visit the Albaicín – the Arab quarter – or the hill of Sacromonte. From here one can perceive the relationship between the Alhambra, its territory and the city of Granada. The origins of Granada's most important monuments, the Alhambra and the Generalife, are not easy to trace. There are clear remains only from the 9th century onwards, although the finest monuments date from the Nasrid monarchy and the reign of Charles V, that is, between the 13th and 16th centuries. In its palaces, from the glazed window of the Daraxa mirador to the Palace of Charles V, everything is designed, planned and executed with perfection in mind, at times close to the Koran or the Sunna, at others closer to the Neoplatonism of the Renaissance. In the Alhambra the Islamic world rests on classical thought, which is not only perceptible in the symbolic order of the Emperor's palace; the Court of the Lions is also a monastic cloister, laid out according to the golden section, the ratio most closely bound to proportion.

Holy Week in Seville

Holy Week is one of Seville's most important events and has been celebrated for centuries; its origins probably date back to the 14th century. The brotherhoods make a penitential procession through the (often narrow) streets of the city, from their church to the Cathedral and back, following the shortest route possible, as decreed by the ordinance of Cardinal Niño de Guevara in the 17th century. Many Sevillians await this important annual event as eagerly as they await the April Fair (Feria de Abril). Beginning on Palm Sunday and ending on Easter Sunday, during Holy Week no fewer than 60 brotherhoods make their religious visit to Seville Cathedral.

Good Friday. La Madrugá, Seville's procession from night until dawn. More than half a million people take part in the traditional “Madrugá”, the Good Friday procession held in the early hours of the morning in Seville. The religious brotherhoods begin to parade in silence after midnight through the main streets of the city. The first is that of El Silencio, the oldest in Seville, which carries in procession the statue of the Nazarene and that of the Immaculate Conception. It is followed by the brotherhood of Jesús del Gran Poder, which has 2,400 members and carries a 17th-century statue of Christ. The third is that of the Santo Rosario, which carries the Virgin of La Macarena, patroness of Seville. Finally come El Calvario, the Virgin of La Esperanza de Triana and Los Gitanos.
