Description
A journey many have dreamed of
This tour along the Silk Road has the feel of a mirage, of oases, of coloured tiles and golden inlays, of spice caravans, mosques and palaces, of evocative scenery and steppes stretching as far as the eye can see… of timeless atmospheres. Strange how all the lands whose names end in -stan stir in us Westerners a kind of unease, a hidden fear, which is dispelled the moment we arrive and meet these welcoming people. And since, from the beginning of 2019, not even an entry visa is required, the country’s new openness is plain to see. It certainly seems odd that a country like this, once a crossroads of trade for the caravans crossing Europe and Asia, should now be a destination still far from mass tourism. But this, together with the scent of tea and spices, the call to prayer, the splendour of the madrasas, the smiles of the women offering their handicrafts and the care Guiness takes in selecting its services, makes this tour… a dream journey.
