The Netherlands, a multicultural society.

The Dutch spirit has asserted itself over the centuries and through successive reigns. A sense of community holds a fundamental place in the country's history. In the 20th century, progressive ideas gradually influenced political life to such an extent that the Netherlands adopted some of the most advanced social legislation in Europe. Today the increasingly multicultural population of the Netherlands promotes the idea of a tolerant and egalitarian society. At first glance Amsterdam may not seem a family-friendly destination, but it takes very little to change your mind.

In Holland great attention is paid to children, which is why you will find plenty of attractions in the city to keep them entertained. You can take them around by bicycle or ice-skating, but also to the zoo or the seaside. The city's parks and gardens are beautifully kept, but a canal cruise can be just as thrilling, aboard one of the many boats that ply the waterways by day or by night (some even let you hop off wherever you like, visit whatever you wish and hop back on the next one). A visit to the Anne Frank House or the Maritime Museum (complete with actors dressed as sailors) can be exciting, as can NEMO, the museum created to bring young people closer to science and technology in a playful way. There is no shortage of towers “to climb”, either. It can be fun to spot famous figures, including present-day ones, in wax at Madame Tussauds. To give them the chance to cook, prepare snacks, serve tea, take orders, wash the dishes and of course prepare the bill, in a very special setting, there is the Kinderkookcafé. For older children, a visit to what was once the city's main brewery, the Heineken Experience, can be gripping, as can the Amsterdam Dungeon, where skilled actors, stage tricks and special effects take you back to the “dark ages” (not suitable for children under 7).

Keukenhof.

Keukenhof is a Dutch botanical garden near the town of Lisse, in South Holland, about 35 km south-west of Amsterdam. It is one of the main attractions of the Netherlands. It is considered the largest bulb-flower garden in the world and has been listed among the most beautiful flower gardens in Europe. Seven million bulbs (mainly tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and grape hyacinths) bloom here every year over an area of 32 hectares. The park also contains 2,500 trees of 87 different species, a lake, canals and pools with fountains, a windmill and numerous sculptures, making it the richest park in the country.

The park is open to the public only from 19 March 2026 to 10 May 2026.
