Description
A Journey Between History and Wild Nature. This eight-day tour devoted to the Egadi Islands archipelago offers complete immersion in the wildest beauty of western Sicily. Based in Favignana for most of the stay, travellers will have the chance to explore the main island aboard a road train, visiting iconic spots such as Calarossa and Lido Burrone. The itinerary strikes a skilful balance between sea excursions and cultural discovery. Hydrofoils take you to Levanzo, the smallest and quietest of the islands, and to Marettimo, the most remote and wild, for a motorboat trip that reveals its celebrated caves (such as the Grotta del Cammello). Favignana too is circumnavigated by motorboat, with swimming stops in the most picturesque coves and the chance to explore inlets and caves. The programme also sets aside time for the mainland and for Sicilian history, with the final leg in the Trapani area. Here, participants can admire the evocative landscape of the Nubia salt pans with their windmills, explore the medieval charm of Erice and its artisan workshops, and visit the typical fishing village of Castellammare del Golfo and the coast below at Scopello. An exclusive journey that marries the magic of the sea with cultural richness
History, Tuna and the Seafaring Traditions of the Egadi Islands. This tour stands out for a unique focus that inextricably links the history of the Egadi archipelago to the fortunes of the powerful Florio family and the ancient culture of the Mattanza, the traditional tuna catch. The heart of this exploration is Favignana, where a day is devoted to discovering the heritage left by the Florios. Travellers will visit the historic Florio Factory, an immense works now turned into a museum of memory, which was once one of the most thriving centres for processing and preserving tuna. This monumental site tells not only the industrial story but also the social story of the islanders, for whom the canning industry meant redemption and a livelihood. The itinerary also includes a walk through the historic centre of Favignana to admire Palazzo Florio (now the town hall) and the Camperia from the outside. The seafaring theme is amplified by the motorboat excursions. On Marettimo, the excursion takes place with local fishermen, and at Scopello the tour includes a scenic stop to admire the historic Tonnara with its magnificent sea stacks. The journey thus offers an authentic look at the traditions, architecture and economy that have shaped the identity of these islands
