ITALY – GUATEMALA CITY

GUATEMALA – ANTIGUA “the old capital of Guatemala, a UNESCO World Heritage Site”- ANTIGUA
Breakfast at the hotel – departure for Antigua, the old capital of Guatemala – tour of the city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its superbly preserved examples of Spanish-American Baroque architecture (the Palace of the Captains General, the City Hall, the Plaza de Armas, the Government Palace, the ruins of the Church of La Merced and the Capuchin Convent) – lunch at leisure – in the evening, arrival in Antigua - dinner at the hotel – evening at leisure - tour leader at your disposal – overnight stay.

CHICHICASTENANGO “the famous indigenous market”- ATITLÁN
Breakfast at the hotel – in the morning, visit to the church of Santo Tomás, on the main square, where the indigenous people burn incense and pray to their gods - lunch in a restaurant – in the late afternoon, departure for Lake Atitlán - arrival in Panajachel - dinner at the hotel – evening at leisure - tour leader at your disposal – overnight stay.

ATITLÁN “one of the most beautiful lakes in the world” – GUATEMALA CITY
Breakfast at the hotel – full day devoted to visiting one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, dominated by three volcanoes and with communities of different ethnic groups living on its shores – boat trip around Lake Atitlán with a stop to visit San Antonio Palopó, a characteristic village where you can admire the colour and folklore of the people of the Guatemalan highlands – lunch at leisure – in the evening, arrival in Guatemala City - dinner at the hotel – evening at leisure - tour leader at your disposal – overnight stay.

GUATEMALA CITY – TIKAL “the Maya spectacle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site” - FLORES
Breakfast at the hotel - transfer to the airport - departure from Guatemala City on a scheduled flight to Flores – on arrival, visit to the archaeological zone of Tikal, considered the most spectacular Maya centre and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The abundance of pyramids and stelae still confirms today the importance of the city during the 8th century. The immense archaeological site covers an area of 576 square kilometres – from the top of the pyramid known as Temple IV you can admire the spectacular scenery of the Petén jungle – lunch in a restaurant – return to Flores - dinner at the hotel – evening at leisure - tour leader at your disposal – overnight stay.
Day 6
FLORES – YAXCHILÁN – PALENQUE
Breakfast at the hotel – departure at 6.30 am for Bethel, on the border between Guatemala and Mexico – arrival after three and a half hours, crossing the Petén forest – on arrival in Petén, boarding of launches and a boat trip of about thirty minutes on the Usumacinta river as far as the village of Corozal – customs check and entry into Mexico – continue by launch for another hour’s navigation to the Maya city of Yaxchilán – visit to the archaeological site and return by launch to Corozal - lunch in a typical restaurant – continue to Palenque - dinner at the hotel – evening at leisure – tour leader at your disposal – overnight stay.

PALENQUE “the Maya city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site” – CAMPECHE
Breakfast at the hotel – visit to the magnificent archaeological site of Palenque, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the most fascinating Maya cities in Mexico, where pyramids and temples emerge from the dense web of trees, lit by the tropical sun that turns them cream-coloured - the city reached its apogee under the rule of King Pakal, who succeeded in exploiting its strategic position, making it a flourishing and important trading centre between the Petén region, the Chiapas highlands and the Grijalva Valley, linked in part by the Usumacinta river, which at this point divides Mexico from Guatemala – departure for Campeche - lunch in a restaurant en route – arrival in San Francisco de Campeche and visit to the historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, still partly surrounded by the hexagonal city walls that once protected it from pirate attacks – dinner at the hotel – evening at leisure – tour leader at your disposal – overnight stay.

CAMPECHE – UXMAL – MÉRIDA “the capital of Yucatán”
Breakfast at the hotel – departure along the Ruta Puuc, “Land of the Hills” in the Maya language, home to the archaeological site of Uxmal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, characterised by the Puuc architecture of the same name, one of the most harmonious and well-proportioned in the Maya world - lunch in a restaurant - continue to Mérida, the capital of the State of Yucatán, known as “the white city” - tour of the city, which still preserves the vestiges of the days of prosperity and European elegance inherited from Spanish and French rule - a stroll through the streets of the historic centre, with visits to the Plaza Mayor and Casa de Montejo – dinner at the hotel – evening at leisure - tour leader at your disposal – overnight stay.

MÉRIDA–CHICHÉN ITZÁ “one of the seven wonders of the world, a UNESCO World Heritage Site”–TULUM–CANCÚN
Breakfast at the hotel – departure for the Riviera Maya – visit to the archaeological site that symbolises the Maya civilisation in the Yucatán Peninsula, Chichén Itzá, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the best known in the world and considered one of the 7 Wonders of the World – the site is divided into 3 groups (Central, North and South) and the visit includes the famous Castillo, a pyramid built in honour of the god Kukulkan, the circular astronomical observatory, the Temple of the Warriors and the “Juego de la Pelota” ball court (a curious ritual game played with elbows, hips and knees) - lunch in a restaurant - followed by a visit to the archaeological site of Tulum (ruins of an ancient Maya port city) - continue to Cancún – dinner in a typical restaurant – evening at leisure - tour leader at your disposal – overnight stay.

CANCÚN – MEXICO CITY
