Why this tour?

  1. to visit the “Rainbow Nation” in all its splendour
  2. to discover Cape Town, “the jewel city”
  3. to go on safari in a country whose flora and fauna are unique in the world

The quintessence of Africa

With the social tensions of Apartheid behind it, South Africa is ready to enchant travellers with its rich and varied heritage. The African giant steps into the present and the future in dazzling form, embodying the most unmistakable features of the entire continent. That is why, leaving well-worn stereotypes aside, we can safely say that on returning from a trip to South Africa it is perfectly normal to fall prey to the so-called “Mal d’Africa” – that longing for Africa – and to start planning a new escape to these latitudes… If we had to promote this wonderful country, it would be hard to find a slogan capable of summing up the many souls that make it up. On the one hand, there is a strong European component, born of history and colonisation, blended to perfection with the vast spaces and imperious nature of Africa; on the other, the quality of life is a well-balanced compromise between the West and indigenous traditions. The result is a unique wealth of cultures and traditions, capable of leaving indelible memories. What experiences does a trip to South Africa offer? Lovers of wild nature will delight in observing the famous “Big Five”. Indeed, South Africa has recently been voted one of the 5 best safari destinations in the world. Moreover, the country’s distinctive topography makes room for deserts of sand and rock, wave-lashed coasts and grasslands carpeted with wildflowers. The characteristic “bushveld” then promises an incredible and exhilarating array of wildlife and tropical forest. The gateway to the country is the city of Cape Town, a perfect example of social and aesthetic regeneration and today one of the most dynamic and culturally significant cities in the whole region. A cable-car ride up Table Mountain is the best way to enjoy a sublime view over the city, surrounded by the roaring Ocean. The blue glimpsed beyond holds endless surprises: sudden sightings of whales and other cetaceans, islands home to colonies of seals and adorable penguins. The Cape of Good Hope evokes ancient adventures and challenges into the unknown, in search of a seductive elsewhere… Along the coast, the scenic Chapman’s Peak Drive and the Garden Route unfold like a ribbon of wonders, with magnificent viewpoints from which to watch the most beautiful sunsets in the southern hemisphere. Between one stop and the next, airy valleys open up, with delightful farm stays and elegant wineries where you can savour exquisite wines that are rising fast on the world market. That is why the Grand Tour of South Africa, with an Italian-speaking guide throughout and the assistance of the tour leader travelling with the group from Italy, is the best way to visit the “Rainbow Nation” in all its splendour. A wonderful journey from which you return changed, and grateful for so much beauty.

The Winelands, the land of vineyards.

Along the beautiful wine routes you can discover South Africa’s award-winning labels and delicious cuisine. Most of the vineyards lie on the verdant plain of the Boland Basin, around 80 km north-east of Cape Town. The rivers that flow through these valleys and converge in the basin give rise to several wine varieties, including Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and the delicious Chocolate Block. As well as wine-tasting tours, at Vergenoegd farm you can watch an unusual and entertaining spectacle: every day 1,070 ducks parade through the vineyards to drive away the snails and other pests that might damage the vines.
