Description
A taste of Spain, between history and street food. On this tour of Spain, every city is a dish and every stop a course. From the spiced aromas of Andalusia to the bold flavours of the Basque Country, the itinerary is a genuine tasting of Spanish life, to be savoured slowly, with the palate and with the eyes. The journey begins in Madrid, in the vibrant heart of the capital, where the first encounter with the country takes place among the stalls of the Mercado de San Miguel, an icon of gourmet street food. The frenetic rhythm of the city mingles with the scent of jamón ibérico and hot croquetas, as footsteps echo on the ancient stones of Plaza Mayor. Every day follows a precise ritual: art, architecture, culture — and then the break, never missed, devoted to local specialities. In Toledo you eat within the medieval walls of Plaza Zocodover, while in Seville the flavours are concentrated in the sun-drenched lanes around the Giralda. Calle Alemanes and Avenida de la Constitución offer fresh tapas, gazpacho and bocadillos with an authentic taste. But it is in Cordoba that food becomes storytelling: the celebrated Tortilla Santos, simple and sumptuous, holds centuries of popular tradition. In Granada, between the Moorish geometry of the Alhambra and the notes of flamenco in the old quarters, street food is enjoyed around Plaza Nueva, where the city becomes a daily theatre. From here we head up the coast to creative Valencia, where paella is served in its homeland, inside the wonderfully colourful Mercado Central. Finally, Barcelona and Bilbao: the first among the Art Nouveau shop windows of the Paseo de Gracia and the folklore of the Mercado de La Boqueria; the second in the Casco Viejo, where pintxos are little masterpieces of Basque flavour. Everywhere, street food is not a filler but a cultural experience in its own right. It is the most direct way to get in tune with Spain: eating where the Spanish eat, without filters, in the living heart of the squares and markets.
Living like a Spaniard, one day at a time. The Grand Tour of Spain is much more than an itinerary: it is a daily immersion in the Spanish way of life, in that wholly Iberian art of enjoying life with calm, intensity and beauty. The decision to include free street-food lunches is no accident: it is the most authentic way to get to know the country. Every market, every square, every barrio is a window onto local daily life. You eat when you are hungry, you taste without haste, you chat with the stallholders, you watch the city as it eats and lives. The journey respects the Spanish rhythm: the morning devoted to cultural discovery, the afternoon to conviviality, the evening to the magic of strolling among the lights and the music. The "by night" evenings in the historic quarters — from the illuminated Plaza Mayor in Madrid to the Barrio de Santa Cruz in Seville, to the charm of Bilbao seen from the panoramic coach — are moments of true immersion in local life. But it is in the variety of the cities visited that the secret of the Spanish lifestyle is revealed: every place has its own character, its own voice, its own cuisine. And yet everywhere you breathe the same art of living: one that blends tradition and innovation, slowness and passion, hospitality and identity. A journey designed for those who want not just to see Spain, but to live it from the inside, between a sip of tinto de verano and a bite of freshly cooked paella. With a light rucksack, a ready smile and an open mind: just as the Spanish do!
