Description
An unforgettable journey through the many faces of the South of France, a source of inspiration for great artists such as Van Gogh, Cézanne and Gauguin. We begin with the elegant resorts and crystal-clear beaches of the French Riviera, then continue to the captivating towns of Upper Provence and the wild, unspoilt nature of the Camargue. Everywhere you look: spectacular coastlines, hilltop villages, fragrant vegetation and enchanting paths… panoramas to remember. Arles This charming little town, full of character and the colours of a bygone age, will be our starting point for exploring the Camargue. It is steeped in history: founded by the Romans on the River Rhône it preserves their legacy in the amphitheatre, the theatre, the baths and a fascinating museum; but the medieval traces are no less interesting. White monuments lit up by the sun, lively little squares, colourful cafés and a riverside lined with characteristic houses create that special atmosphere which so inspired Gauguin and Van Gogh (who painted no fewer than 200 canvases here!).
The gem of the tour: the Saint-Martial Chapel in Avignon. After 10 years of restoration, the Saint-Martial Chapel is open to visitors once again, revealing the treasures of the frescoes by the extraordinary Italian artist Matteo Giovannetti, official painter to Pope Clement VI.
"When I realised that I would see this light again every morning, I could not believe my luck... I then decided that I would not leave Nice, and I have lived here practically all my life since". Henri Matisse
