Description
From Vienna to Innsbruck, a complete visit of Austria. We enter the Alpine country via the Tarvisio pass and return to Italy over the Brenner, after crossing one of the highest bridges in Europe, the Europabrücke. Highlights include a short cruise on the Danube and the visit to Melk, the largest abbey in Austria. Convenient overnight stops in Udine and Trento, in centrally located hotels, let you discover the well-kept historic centres of these two lovely towns with a pleasant after-dinner stroll.
An important visit, the Mauthausen Memorial, to see at first hand an important piece of modern history.
The climate in Austria.
Austria is characterised by the transitional climate of Central Europe, influenced by the Atlantic. Much of Austria is exposed to prevailing winds from the west and north-west. The temperature range between day and night, and between summer and winter, is smaller in western Austria than in the eastern regions of the country. Rainfall is abundant everywhere, decreasing steadily in quantity as one moves eastwards.
Austria gives generously of itself: a land rich in traditions, history, architecture, delicious cuisine and some of the most refined music... What more could one wish for! The splendours of the Empire, castles, baroque churches, palaces in Habsburg style but also Art Nouveau or futuristic, and then mountains, rivers, waterfalls and immaculately kept museums.

Day 1
BARI – PESCARA – NAPLES – ROME or other departure point > UDINE
Departure from your home town - lunch at leisure at a motorway service area – evening check-in at the hotel in Udine – dinner at the hotel – after dinner, Udine by night: a stroll through the historic centre – overnight stay.
Day 2 · 485 km.
UDINE - VIENNA
Breakfast at the hotel - departure for Vienna - lunch at leisure at a motorway service area - in the afternoon, guided visit of Historic Vienna (the historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the Opera House, the Ring “the Emperor’s ring road”, St Stephen’s Cathedral, Kärntnerstrasse, the Hofburg Imperial Palace –exterior-) - check-in at the hotel – dinner at a typical beer hall - after dinner, Vienna by night: a stroll with your tour leader through the pedestrian area of the historic centre, St Stephen’s, the Graben and Kärntnerstrasse – overnight stay.
Day 3
VIENNA “the most liveable city in the world”
Breakfast at the hotel - full day devoted to a guided visit of the city - in the morning, visit of Schönbrunn Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (the summer residence of the Habsburgs) – lunch at leisure - in the afternoon, visit of Modern Vienna and its new architecture (the Hundertwasserhaus, the waste incinerator, the social housing estates, Donau-City, the Belvedere Palace, exterior) - in the afternoon, a tasting of cake and coffee – dinner at a typical restaurant – overnight stay.

VIENNA – DANUBE VALLEY - MELK - MAUTHAUSEN - SALZBURG
Breakfast at the hotel - departure for Krems – boarding and mini-cruise on the Danube from Krems to Dürnstein (from 10.10 am to 10.40 am) – disembark for a short stroll through the prettiest village of the Wachau, whose historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (the Danube Valley) – continue to Melk – visit of the splendid abbey - lunch at leisure - in the afternoon, transfer to Salzburg - stop near Linz to visit the Mauthausen Memorial – evening check-in at the hotel in Salzburg or its surroundings - dinner at the hotel – after dinner, Salzburg by night: a stroll through the city centre with your tour leader, by private coach – overnight stay.
Day 5 · 200 km.
SALZBURG – HALL IN TIROL - INNSBRUCK
Breakfast at the hotel - in the morning, visit of Salzburg with a guide (the historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Getreidegasse, the Cathedral, Mozart’s House –exterior-, the Benedictine Abbey of St Peter, Residenzplatz, the Mirabell Gardens) - lunch at leisure – free time for shopping - departure for Innsbruck – stop at Hall in Tirol, a characteristic town in the Tyrol - tasting of local specialities - dinner at the hotel - after dinner, Innsbruck by night: a stroll through the city centre with your tour leader – overnight stay.

INNSBRUCK – TRENTO/ROVERETO
Breakfast at the hotel - in the morning, visit of Innsbruck with a guide – lunch at leisure – tasting of local specialities - free time for shopping – transfer to Trento across the Europabrücke (one of the highest bridges in Europe) – short walk on the bridge - check-in at the hotel – dinner at the hotel - after dinner, Trento/Rovereto by night: a stroll through the historic centre of the town – overnight stay.
