Breakfast at the hotel – tour of Amman, the capital of Jordan, built on 7 hills (the ancient Roman theatre dating from the days when Amman was called Philadelphia, the Citadel, from which you can admire splendid examples of Roman, Byzantine and Muslim architecture, the Archaeological Museum with finds from all over the country spanning every era from prehistory to the 15th century, the Folklore Museum) - departure to visit the Umayyad Castles of the desert, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (called castles because of their imposing size, they actually served various purposes, acting as caravan stations, agricultural and trading centres, rest stops and outposts useful to distant rulers for forging ties with the local Bedouin) – Qasr Amra, one of the best-preserved monuments, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site (the interior walls and ceilings are covered with brilliant frescoes, and two rooms have splendidly coloured mosaic floors) - isolated in the desert and imposing, Qasr Kharana, a square structure with round towers at the corners, a monumental entrance, a decorative frieze running all around the exterior, and small windows in the walls that reveal its structure as a defensive castle (it was in fact a true fortress that stood guard over the caravan route, to which it gave shelter. An inscription on a door lintel bears the date 711 AD, but other inscriptions in Latin and Greek indicate that an earlier fortress stood on the site) - Qasr Azraq, situated in the oasis of the same name, of Roman foundation, which owing to its strategic position on the border with several countries and in an area rich in water was occupied by various civilisations, including the Umayyads, the Ayyubids and the Ottomans, and became famous during the First World War, when Lawrence of Arabia used it as a military base during the Arab Revolt against the Turks – lunch in a restaurant – return to Amman in the evening – dinner at the hotel – evening at leisure – tour leader at your disposal – overnight stay.

Breakfast at the hotel – full-day excursion – visit to Ajlun and the remains of the Ayyubid Castle, built by one of Saladin’s generals in 1184 AD to control the local iron mines and ward off Frankish invasions - continue to Gadara, known today as Umm Qais – perched on a height overlooking the Jordan Valley and the Sea of Galilee, it boasts splendid colonnaded streets, a vaulted terrace and the remains of two theatres - Gadara was once a renowned cultural centre, home to many classical poets and philosophers, including Theodorus, founder of the school of rhetoric in Rome, so much so that one of them renamed it the "new Athens" - lunch in a restaurant – visit to Jerash, “the Pompeii of the East”, a magnificent Greco-Roman city about 50 km from Amman - ancient Gerasa reached the height of its splendour in Roman times when, as a city of the Decapolis, it was enriched with stunning monuments such as the forum, the propylaea, the amphitheatre and many others – return to Amman in the evening – dinner at the hotel – evening at leisure – tour leader at your disposal – overnight stay.

Breakfast at the hotel - departure along the King’s Highway, one of the oldest roads in the world, which linked Syria and Arabia – visit to Mount Nebo, from where Moses first saw the Promised Land, and Madaba, home to the Orthodox church of St George, which houses the famous 6th-century mosaic map of Palestine – continue to Kerak, with a stop to visit the fortress, a beautiful example of medieval architecture built in 1149 and later remodelled by the Arabs – lunch in a restaurant – arrival in Petra in the evening – dinner at the hotel - evening at leisure – tour leader at your disposal – overnight stay.

Breakfast at the hotel - early in the morning, start of the visit to Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Through the Siq, the narrow cleft between the mountains that conceals its entrance, you reach this extraordinary city carved entirely out of the rock more than 2,000 years ago by the Nabataeans - you will be able to admire numerous buildings carved into the polychrome sandstone, such as the Pharaoh’s Treasury, the Roman Amphitheatre, the Urn, Corinthian and Lion tombs, the temples and the Monastery – lunch in a restaurant – visit with a local guide in the morning and with your tour leader in the afternoon - dinner at the hotel - evening at leisure – tour leader at your disposal – overnight stay.

Breakfast at the hotel – morning at leisure to relax on the Dead Sea at 390 metres below sea level (it is the lowest point on earth, and its highly saline waters have been used since antiquity to treat numerous ailments – don’t forget your swimming costume!) - lunch at a spa hotel on the Dead Sea - departure for Bethany beyond the Jordan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site - According to the Gospel, John the Baptist lived and preached in this place, and since 1996 pottery, coins and architectural remains of a 5th-century Byzantine monastery have been brought to light here, as well as an early 3rd-century building with beautiful mosaics and what is now known as the Christian "prayer room" (if this hypothesis is correct, it may have been one of the very first buildings in the world used for Christian prayer) – arrival in Amman - dinner in a typical restaurant – overnight stay.
