Why this tour?

  1. to discover enchanting Kerala, “God’s Own Country”
  2. to visit the tea plantations of Munnar
  3. to sail the backwaters, an experience not to be missed

Kerala, or rather “God’s Own Country”. This magical region of South India is the cradle of Ayurvedic massage, but also the area with the greatest concentration of palm trees in the world. Between endless beaches and the gentle pace of rural life, it is the ideal destination for a journey that will leave you at peace with the world and with your senses.

Kerala offers a wealth of interesting possibilities for every kind of traveller. Sailing the backwaters, unwinding with an Ayurvedic massage, visiting the tea plantations of Munnar or relaxing on the beach are experiences not to be missed in Kerala.

Kerala offers a range of possibilities that make it an appealing destination for any traveller. With its hills, lakes, beaches, waterfalls and wildlife, Kerala is sure to enchant every nature lover.

Kerala is a region profoundly different from the rest of India; countless foreign explorers landed here, drawn by the spice trade, and traces of its colonial past are everywhere: Syrian Christian churches, mosques, Dutch- and Portuguese-style houses, buildings from the days of the Raj and even a sixteenth-century synagogue in Kochi. Tolerance has a long tradition here, and every kind of faith has been welcomed without any disorder, each taking on a local hue over time. Kerala is one of the wealthiest regions of India, where poverty is barely visible and the culture retains original features found nowhere else. The unmissable experiences in Kerala.

Sailing the backwaters. Kerala’s backwaters are a must for anyone visiting this state. Sailing along the labyrinth of canals that winds for a full 900 km between the coast and the hinterland is probably the experience that will stay with you most from the whole of your journey through Kerala. The boats cross shallow lakes fringed with palms and dotted with fishing nets. Along the way you come across small villages with mosques, churches, temples, schools, hospitals and tiny clusters of houses that together form one immense, sprawling city.

Ayurvedic massage. Ayurvedic medicine is one of the oldest in the world, dating back some 2,000 years, and is said to have been born right here in Kerala. According to Ayurveda, the world has an intrinsic balance of its own, and illness is nothing more than a departure from this order, a loss of balance. Ayurvedic treatments aim to restore inner balance and therefore good health. There are two main methods of achieving this: panchakarma (internal purification) and massage. Each dosha is identified with particular foods, and diet is an essential component of this kind of practice.

Visiting the tea plantations of Munnar. After the backwaters, the places to visit in Kerala certainly include the tea plantations around Munnar, in the mountains of the Ghats. Munnar is the main centre of the tea trade and sits amid mountain scenery of rare beauty. Munnar is the perfect place to relax for a few days and enjoy absolutely magnificent views. The fields are so perfect they look as if they have been drawn by hand, and it is wonderful to see the pride in the eyes of the women picking tea in their traditional dress.
