Description
A journey into the authentic heart of Japan, between ancient allure and immediate beauty.
Anyone who dreams of the authentic Japan, far from the frenzy of the big cities and the most touristy circuits, will find this itinerary a surprising experience. “Authentic Japan – Southern Trails” is a journey designed to explore two of the archipelago's most fascinating and least-known islands: Shikoku and Kyushu, lands still deeply bound to tradition, spirituality and the slow rhythm of local life. The tour is a crescendo of emotions and contrasts: it begins with the vibrant modernity of Osaka, then crosses the refined landscape of the gardens of Takamatsu and the down-to-earth, convivial character of Kochi, before reaching Beppu, with its incredible geothermal phenomena, and poetic Matsuyama, where the culture of the hot-spring bath is an integral part of daily life. The heart of the journey unfolds across Kyushu, Japan's “hot” island, where the force of nature coexists with historical memory. In Kagoshima, dominated by the Sakurajima volcano, the power of the elements is interwoven with scenery of extraordinary beauty. In Nagasaki you enter an intense and moving dimension, between testimonies of the past and openness to the world. Finally, Fukuoka offers a sunny, Mediterranean Japan of temples, parks, street food and warm hospitality. The programme is enriched by ten typical dinners, local culinary experiences, guided tours, moments of relaxation and an expert tour leader always on hand. The limited group size, the well-balanced pace of the days, the comfort of the transfers and the variety of experiences make this tour ideal for those looking for something different, profound and memorable.
Shikoku and Kyushu: the hidden breath of Japanese nature.
There is a Japan where nature is not merely a backdrop but the living protagonist of the landscape and the culture. A Japan of still-active volcanoes, boiling springs, age-old gardens and picture-postcard seascapes. It is the Japan of the South, of Shikoku and Kyushu, two extraordinary islands for anyone wishing to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Land of the Rising Sun, far from the clichés. The journey begins among the perfect curves of the Ritsurin Garden in Takamatsu, a sublime example of a landscape designed according to the principles of Shinto and Zen. It continues with Katsurahama beach and the botanical gardens of Kochi, where nature becomes a sensory experience. In Matsuyama, meanwhile, it is the thermal water that leads the narrative: you bathe in the Dogo Onsen, the oldest bathhouse in Japan, also referenced by Hayao Miyazaki in his films. Then comes Kyushu: the island of fire and steam, where the earth lives and breathes. Beppu, known as “the thermal hell”, astonishes with its geysers, blood-red lakes, clouds of steam and the celebrated Umi Jigoku, a cobalt-blue pool that looks as if it had been painted. The force of the elements continues at Kagoshima, where the active, closely monitored Sakurajima volcano rises before the bay in a surreal panorama. At Shimabara, the Unzen Jigoku blends volcanic landscapes with Christian memory, among pools of bubbling mud and silences full of history. The journey ends among the urban beaches of Fukuoka, its cherry-tree parks and its ocean views. Aboard ferries, high-speed trains and comfortable coaches, the tour unfolds like a visual and sensory story in which every stop is an invitation to slow down, observe and let yourself be amazed. Perfect for those seeking nature, authenticity and atmosphere, this itinerary is much more than a journey: it is an invitation to see Japan with new eyes.
